Tea Party Trinkets

Miss Papercraft turned 9 this week.  See here for her birthday card and poster.

Now that there’s 3 mini mes at Papercraft HQ, they are on a roster for a big party, but I’m a soft touch when it comes to celebrating birthdays (I love celebrating birthdays!), so I make sure the kids have a celebration of some kind.  Miss 9 chose a tea party with a few of her friends from school.

It was a lot of fun to put together a high tea for little people!  We prepared a menu, I made food & drinks and we served using the fine china set gifted to me by Mr Papercraft’s Grandma.  Why is it that we always keep the “good stuff” hidden away.  It’s such a delicate and pretty set – I’ve made a resolution to get it out regularly!

Here’s the table setting ready for the girls…

All Dressed Up | kelly kent

I made them all a little bag as a table gift using the All Dressed Up Die.  I often find dies that make 3D items a little fiddly, but this set is a dream to use.  The tabs are lovely and wide and the bag does together beautifully.  You can add the straps in a variety of ways to create lots of different looks.  I’ve attached from the back corner to the front, using magnets to attach to the front for easier opening.

I added the strip of left over DSPf from the 12″ strip (I’ve used a retired floral pattern called Floral District) to a piece of white copy paper to make a cute coordinating placemat.  All those bespoke touches are what makes papercrafting so special to me!

The bags are a great size when made up. We filled them with an assortment of trinkets including a scented mini pen, hair elastic, lip balm, notepad and necklace.  The notepad was super easy to make to size by cutting down copy paper (2″ x 2-3/4″), punching with the retired Spiral Punch and clipping together with a cute mini clip.  The clips were on the Clearance Rack a little while ago (I love getting a great deal on cute Stampin’ Up!). Click here to see what’s currently available on the Clearance Rack.

The necklaces were made using DIY jewellery supplies with a 1″ circle punch in the same DSP as I used for the bags (did I mention I love it when things match???)!  You can find these on ebay by searching for 25mm Pendant Setting Cabochon Tray.  You’ll also need glass domes and a necklace chains.

How cute is this high tea cake stand.  I stumbled across it by accident last year.  The top layer is Banana & Raspberry “Ice Cream” (made using just those two frozen fruits in the Thermomix), pikelets on the middle layer and fruit kebabs on the bottom layer.  My kids insist on having marshmallows on the fruit kebabs!!!

Happy New Year, Happy New Catalogue 2020!

01.01.20_DHEADER_GOLIVE_JJ_MC_SP

I love the promise a new year holds.  I’ve always been a fan of numbers, so 2020 seems like a number that will hold many possibilities.  I hope it’s wonderful for you & your family.

I was very lucky over the Christmas break to take some time away with my family in the beautiful south of Australia.  We visited Esperance – the town where my husband grew up.  We spent time with family, camped on the white sand of the beach and soaked up some glorious sun.  We came back recharged, a little sun-kissed and with some great new memories.

Team Kent 2020 | kelly kent

Returning home (with more washing than I cared for), it was nice to get back into my craft room and have a play with some of my new products from the 2020 Jan-June Mini Catalogue.  If you live in Australia and don’t yet have a copy of this super pretty catalogue, please let me know and I’ll send one to you.  You can also view it online by clicking here.

Here’s a quick video by Stampin’ Up! that shares some of the lovely products on offer…

Reflection, Reorganising and Redirecting mypapercraftjourney

LONG WORDY POST AHEAD, read on for some stamping reflection….

When deciding on a blog name all those years ago, I had no idea how apt calling this little hobby a ‘journey’ would be.  From the instant love of stamping at that very first class to the elation of having customers and sharing at workshops, to starting classes with fabulous regulars, to building a following on my blog, to being asked to join design teams, to being selected to share at Stampin’ Up! events, to building a team of wonderful ladies that are some of my closest friends….

So much wonderful!  I’ve achieved things I worked hard for, had success in areas start as pure ambition and notched up some things that I didn’t even know were going to be goals on mine.  And although I don’t think it’s time to climb to the other side of the mountain, it’s definitely time to travel different path for a while.  Some parts of stamping that had previously motivated me, just don’t hold the same power anymore.

Last year we added baby #3 to our little family, and for the most part, this has been the catalyst for some reflection on where stamping fits into my life and what parts of this hobby are the most meaningful to me.  One of the most frequent comments I’ve had from people is ‘I don’t know how you do it all’.  And the truth is, looking back, I’m not entirely sure.  I managed well by stamping once the kids were in bed and at the peak of the adventure over the past couple of years, the kids were at an age where they needed more supervision than hands on parenting, so I could sneak some crafting here and there.  But that pace hasn’t been sustainable since Little Master Papercraft joined us.  I’ve become even more time poor than I was previously and I found myself questioning if the energy I was putting into Stampin’ Up! was giving me what I needed from this glorious hobby.

The signs all seemed to be pointing towards simplifying what I was doing – or risk getting to a point of burnout where stamping didn’t bring me joy anymore.  So, I once again put my blog on sleep mode and took some time away from the pressures, demands and deadlines of running an active blog.  I thought I’d use this time to ‘stamp for fun’ but the reality was that I just needed that time away and I barely did any stamping.

The next part of the reflection was hard – I needed to work out what elements of stamping activities could be downgraded, simplified or simply let go.  As always with these types of decisions, it took me a long time to work that out, but once I did, it felt right (even if parting ways with some of my commitments is also incredibly sad).  I’ve resigned from two of the design teams I was part of – CASEing the Catty and Colour INKspiration.  My plan is to focus my attentions as a design team member for Just Add Ink, join in with Stamp Review Crew when I have the stamp set and blog with my Paper Adventures team each month.  Everything else will be a bonus and inspired by the love of stamping, not the next hop on a list.

With less design team commitments, my blog won’t be nearly as active as in previous years – and I’m ok with that.  I still want to share what inspires me (and challenge blogging seems to bring out the best in my creativity), but I don’t want it to be a race or a pressure within my week.  Less blogging also means the need for less variety within my craft stash, which will cause me to look at the catalogue in a completely different way.  I’m excited by a fresh approach to deciding what’s in my collection!

I’ve always really enjoyed hosting stamping classes – and I want them to stay in a format that suits me.  It’s a great social experience and a wonderful feeling to share the design & creation part of stamping with others.  I stopped running classes during 2018, but have picked them back up this year – carrying on from what I used to do.  One of the main challenges for me is time & scheduling.  The every changing demands of a young and active family, mean I can’t commit to anything regular or predictable without feeling the weight of expectation.  So, I’m taking the pressure off setting boundaries around how my classes look or setting a frequency and I’m now offering “Social Stamping”.  This will be a pop up class at a point that I am able to fit it into my family commitments.  I will advertise them on my blog and on my Facebook page and they will continue to be held from my home in Dalyellup (Bunbury).  The emphasis on these classes will be to ‘get together’ – share a drink, have a laugh and do a little stamping on the side.  If this sounds like your ‘cup of tea’, make sure to follow me on the blog or Facebook so you don’t miss the details.

One of my favourite quotes is ‘the only constant is change’ and although some of these decisions were hard, doing something because that’s the way it’s always been done is a bad idea!!!

I’m going to try this direction for a while, but I know that more change is inevitable and I’m excited for what the journey ahead holds!

I’ll leave you with a photo that shares the catalyst for change – Team Kent seeking more time & space for these precious family moments.

Annual Winter Hiatus

For the third year in a row (though last year’s was little more circumstantial than choice), I am taking a winter blogging break.  It seems to be this time of the year that my Stampin’ Up! sprinting seems to slow to a reluctant jog and I realise that it’s time to slow the pace, or risk ruining the joy that Stampin’ Up! brings me.

Consistent blogging takes time, effort and organisation.  There’s many late nights in the craft room, stolen moments at the computer and the ongoing demand for creativity.  I love being part of design teams, participating in blog hops and making projects for my classes, but as with everything, there’s a very fine line between sharing what you love and what you love becoming a chore.  For every blog post you see published by a crafter, there’s many hours of preparation involve – design, creating, photography, writing, sharing.

This mini break will give me a chance to reset, recharge my batteries and play with paper on my own terms.  Or, I might watch my favourite tv programs while sitting on the couch, go to bed before midnight or try another crafty hobby!!!

I’ll be back in a while (mid August) and look forward to sharing with you again.  Thanks for your support!

Retirement List – Occasions 2019 & 18-19 Annual Catalogue

04.15.19_HEADER_RETIRING_LIST_SP

Well, it’s that time of year again when Stampin’ Up! regales us with the promise of amazing new stamps (and they are amazing!!!) at the same time as sharing which favourites are on the retirement list.

We know that all the 2017-2019 In Color items are retiring – Berry Burst, Powder Pink, Fresh Fig, Tranquil Tide & Lemon Lime Twist.  Historically, these items sell out very quickly, so I’d suggest ordering sooner rather than later.

There’s several ways to view the retiring lists.  Click on the links below to see all the information in the way that best suits you.

CASEing the Catty #212 | Sale-A-Bration

Sunday …. again!  It came around so quick for me this week!!!  We’ve been busy enjoying the beauty of the area we live in.  On Monday we treated ourselves to a day out.  We visited a million year + underground cave, had a yummy lunch at a seafood restaurant and stopped at a beautiful swimming beach on the way home.

This weekend has been hot – good weather for hiding in the air con and crafting!!

The theme for CASEing the Catty this week is Sale-A-Bration – time for some more project inspired by that little catalogue of goodness!!!

Image may contain: text

I’ve decided to use the catalogue for colour this week, taking inspiration from page 12.

Pink & Kraft are such a great combination!  The contrast of the light pink & dark pink plus white is just magic!

I teamed up the colour combination with the suite I’m loving the most at the moment – Needlepoint Nook.

It was the background flourish die that first caught my attention in this set, but upon using it, I’ve decided the flowers are just so sweet!

And of course I love the All My Love DSP (not part of the Needlepoint Nook suite but part of the suite that sits alongside the inspiration picture – which ties it altogether!).

Stamp Review Crew | Love What You Do

I’m checking in today for my final post of 2018 – and no better way than hopping with my Stamp Review Crew friends.

We’re all creating using the Love What You Do stamp set.  You can find the full list of international Stampin’ Up! demonstrators who have created for this hop by visiting the Stamp Review Crew blog.

This stamp set arrived as an early release for the 2018-2019 Annual Catalogue in the Share What You Love suite.  It was loved by everyone and exploded on blogs, Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook….  but then as always, other new loves took over and it got a little less love in the second half of 2018.  It’s so lovely to revisit this beautiful stamp set and all the coordinating products.

I didn’t get around to as many Christmas cards this year as I would have liked.  I’m ok with that – I’m now moving on to other occasions such as wishing my friends a happy new year, wonderful 2019 or marking special occasions like birthdays.

For this card, I used elements of the stamp set to create a ‘happy 2019’ card for a friend.

Love What You Do | kelly kent

As I made this project, I reflected on the year and noted the significance of the products in my card –

  • This DSP has to be one of my all-time favourites
  • I loved the Colour Refresh that the new catalogue brought.  Rich Razzleberry is so much better placed in the Regals!
  • I was so sad to see the Large Numbers retire.  I will never stop using them!
  • 2018 was the year of white embossing for me!!  And fussy cutting – I don’t mind a little fussy cutting.
  • I’m excited about new products to come like the Rectangle Stitched Framelits.  You are going to love them so much – stitched inside & outside of the cut line!!!

Love What You Do | kelly kent

While we are reflecting on the year that has been, here’s my stats for 2018.  I just love putting this together and looking at everything I’ve done throughout the year!2018 in Review | kelly kent

I hope 2019 is beautiful for everyone – filled with all the things that bring you happiness!

Next up on the hop is the gorgeous creations of Tanya Boser

Thank you for the support (and patience) in 2018!  It’s been a big year for me!
