Hello! Thanks for joining in for the November edition of the Paper Adventures Team Hop. Today’s theme is oh-so-relevant as we embark on the end of year festive season – teacher presents, thank you presents, Christmas presents…. it’s all about gift wrapping and packaging.

My packaging is going to be your go-to this Christmas when you need something easy but super cute – it’s the Mini Coffee Cups & Coffee Caddy from the Aug-Dec 2020 Mini Catalogue.

As well as the coffee cups and caddy, you’ll also need:

• a choice of DSP (Heartwarming Hugs)
• a sentiment stamp set (Warm Hugs)
• ribbon or twine (Mossy Meadow Diagonal Stripe & Real Red Braided Linen Trim)
• cello bag (Mosaic Gusseted Cello Bags)

You may also want to use the Warm Wraps Dies – they cut out the cutest band for your Mini Coffee Cups. They coordinate with the Warm Hugs stamp set, giving you lots of options for embellishing your sweet treats. I’ve filled the cello bag with locally made Rocky Road and popped a sachet of hot chocolate powder into the coffee cup.

If you thought the Mini Coffee Cups & Caddy were just for Christmas, then look at the next version I made. By changing up the DSP and colours, it’s really easy for this to be a birthday or thank you gift.

This one features the Flowers for Every Season DSP and ribbon combo pack.

There’s Favourites chocolates in the cello bag and a generic ‘for you’ sentiment, ready for any occasion. The stamp set is still the Warm Hugs one I used for the Christmas version – such a versatile one to have in your collection.

I’ve used the Banner Triple punch for the tag on each creation, but you could also cut banners with scissors if you don’t own this yet. It does make banner ends a breeze!

For the Love of Sharing | Gymnastics

Today is the last day of my social media hiatus where I’ve been sharing scheduled posts on my blog and staying off my usual social media hangouts – (Instagram, Facebook & Pinterest).  I love social media – it’s great for connecting and fabulous for inspiration but I really felt that it was time for a break.  Time to refocus and reconnect, and spend some time being very ‘in the moment’ with my family during school holidays.

I’m always busy doing something crafty and even with my time away from the screen, I’ve still being getting inky with some Paper Pumpkin kits I had not yet completed.  There’s something very wonderful about creating pretty cards that someone else has designed using pieces that all come out of the same box.  Stampin’ Up! kits are awesome!

As well as playing with paper, I love getting craft in other genres too.  Hands up who loves to dabble in a range of creative outlets???  One of my loves is designing and applying vinyl.  Some weeks it feels like to do more with vinyl than I do with paper!  Being able to customise and personalise gifts is the best!!!  And it goes well with stamping – cool vinyl gifts always needs an awesome card!

Today I’m sharing this years and last years thank you creations for the team at Bunbury PCYC who wore tirelessly week in, week out coaching gymnastics.  Coaching shows wonderful passion for a sport – it takes a special person to step into a coaching role!

Buying a heat press this year has been a total game changer when it comes to applying vinyl!

I might have been a little too excited at how the 2020 gifts turned out and forgot to take photos of the tags I made using the Gift Wrapped bundle!  Whoops!  The bows looked cute, so I’m sure I’ll make them again for another gift and be sure to share!

I know how much Miss Papercraft loves gym and it was nice to be able to show our appreciation with some fun gifts.  Thank you to all the parents, volunteers and paid professionals who coach and mentor in junior sports.

 

Social Stamping | change

As I write this, we embark on the beginning of school holidays here in Western Australia.  It’s been a rollercoaster of a term – moving through the phases of social distancing, adapting to a new way of interacting everywhere we go and becoming comfortable within a transitioning world where COVID is both a threat and no threat at all.  There has been a lot of change over the past 15 weeks – which is how long we’ve been participating in these Social Stamping Blog Hosts, and seemed like a good theme to finish the COVID series of Social Stamping Blog Hosts.  You can see all the themes, the full participant list and the final goodbye to the COVID series by clicking here.

Like all humans, I like a little certainty in life, but I am actually not adverse to change.  In many areas of my life I like and welcome change that serves a purpose.  Change can be a really positive thing.  Without change, we cannot move forward, we cannot progress.

Change brings us new catalogues and new products – which we all find exciting!  Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators got access this week to the upcoming August-December 2020 Mini Catalogue.  That’s the kind of change we can get on board with!  I’ve placed a sneaky order and will share some of my new catalogue favourites soon.  Until then, I’m having fun sharing some Annual Catalogue newbies, like the Moving Along stamp set.

When thinking about a project that highlighted change, I couldn’t go past a Magic Slider card.

When you pull the tab on the right, the panel moves and reveals more images and the helicopter magically changes colour!

This style of card is great for kids cards and this stamp set is perfect for little engine lovers!

A Stamparatus is a must to be able to make this card.  You’ll also need Window Sheets and StazOn ink.  I found this video super helpful to breakdown the instructions.  I’ve made this type of card before, but there’s a few steps, so it helps to have a refresher on the technique.

Accordion Card | DIY Colouring

A gorgeous family friend had her birthday last week.  I always like to design custom cards when I can and with this little miss loving Kawaii characters, a cute colouring card seemed like the perfect option.

Kawaii is the culture of cute in Japan, typified by the sweetest characters and a rainbow of pastel colours.  One of the most popular characters is Pusheen – a cartoon cat who was first designed for comics and now appears in books, stationary and clothing.  Pusheen is the star of my colouring card.

This card style was adapted from the accordion card I made earlier in the month.  You can see the full post by clicking here.

This version has a slightly longer accordion section to allow room for the pencils on the right side.  Adapted measurements for the accordion pull out: 4 3/4″ x 11-1/2″, score at 1″, 3-1/2″, 6″, 8-1/2″ and 10″.

The panels from left to right on the fold out will be 1-1/2″, 1-1/2″, 2-1/2″, 2-1/2″, 2-1/2″ & 1″.  The 1″ panel has holes for the string to tie in the pencils and is adhered to the card base layer.

The black and white images for this card are all Pusheen themed colouring pages I found via Google and printed on Whisper White cardstock.

I coloured in the back page using Stampin’ Blends (Daffodil Delight, Highland Heather, Pool Party, Mint Macaron, Pink Pirouette*). *retired colour

Rather than cover this up, I attached the accordion fold only at the right edge and decorated both sides.

The DSP is one of the new patterns from the 2020 edition of the colour stacks.  Highland Heather, So Saffron & Balmy Blue.

Rather than a sentiment that was stuck on the to card, I used a mini clip (from a previous catalogue and recently available on the Clearance Rack) to attach a Birthday Wishes label.  The die is from the Hippo & Friends Dies and the sentiment is from the Fancy Phrases stamp set.

This card was fun to make and was a hit with the birthday girl!!!  Thank you for letting me share it with you.

Paper Adventures Team Hop | Kit Challenge

During the restrictions of COVID, our Paper Adventures Team participated in three challenges that we used as the basis for a card swap.

The first one was to send the materials required to make 4 cards with photos to inspire the recipient’s versions.

The second one was to send all the materials to make 3 cards, but no inspiration photos.

The third one was a card base with an attached piece of DSP and a couple of extra pieces to get the recipient started with their own version.

We had so much fun in each challenge, we thought we’d extend the theme through to our team hop for this month.  We welcome Joanne James from the UK to share in the fun with us!

Here’s the brief – projects must include a square piece of DSP, a piece of ribbon at least 4″ long, a trinket or embellishment and dry or heat embossing.  I can’t wait to see what the team makes!

I have the most fun with challenges when they extend my thinking and take me away from what I would normally make.  The need to use a square piece of DSP inspired me to create a 3D project using a 6″x6″ square piece of DSP as the starting point.  My new catalogue DSP finally arrived, just in time to create for this challenge!

This treat bag style bag & box in one was designed by Kim Price.  You can see her original projects including instructions and a video by clicking here.

It has a square base and curved sides and is super cute.  And the best part – it starts with a piece of 6″x6″ DSP which means you can create it using any of the DSP designs in the 2020-2021 Annual Catalogue.  I’ve used the Artistry Blooms DSP for the treat bag paired with images from the Whale of a Time DSP.

The finished size is 4-3/4″ tall by 2-3/4″ wide.  I plan to fill these boxes with chocolates as gifts for a workshop I have booked tomorrow night with some lovely local ladies.

The whale for the blue treat bag has been cut with the coordinating Whale Builder Punch.  The turtle for the pink treat bag was fussy cut from the same DSP pack.

With so many new things to play with at the moment, I’m enjoying mixing & matching between sets.  The tag is cut using one of the label dies from the Hippo & Friends Dies, with a slot die – which is also part of this set. I also used this on the top of the bag, placing the slot at a point where I could line up the bag and tag together.

The Hippo & Friends Dies are one of the best value sets in the catalogue with 25 dies including three different stitched  label options (in multiple sizes), accessory pieces and dies to match the characters from the Hippo Happiness stamp set.  I can’t wait to show you some projects with those cute little stamps!!!

To complete the challenge, I used twine & ribbon from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack through the slot to close the bag, Basic Pearls & Basic Rhinestones as the embellishment and white heat embossing for the sentiment.  The ‘thanks’ sentiment is from the Whale Done stamp set. I’ve used masking tape to cover the bottom half of the sentiment and just stamp out the ‘thanks’.

I’m excited to see how the rest of the team uses the 4 elements of the challenge to create their amazing projects.  The next creative queen is Lisa Whitehead.

Mother’s Day 2020 | Double Flower Box

Happy Mother’s Day. I hope you’ve had a wonderful day, and despite the challenges of life as we know it at the moment, that you’ve been able to connect with, share memories of or make plans to see your mum. For those of you who have children, I hope you were able to add new memories with them this year – either in person or through technology.

I had a lovely day with the three Little Papercrafts. I scored a sleep in, a leisurely cooked breakfast, some time in the sunshine, a family catch up via Zoom and dinner with Nanna Papercraft.

Mother’s Day 2020 | Nanna Papercraft & the Little Papercrafts

When your Mum loves card making and stamping supplies as much as you do, there’s a little bit of pressure to create a fabulous card for special occasions. Thankfully Nicole Wilson’s Double Flower Box Card came to the rescue!!! You can find Nicole’s tutorial in the May Flower Tutorial bundle from The Dimensionals. This is one of those great folds that folds down flat to fit into a normal envelope, even though it’s wonderfully 3D when opened up.

Here’s the front with Painted Poppies stamping, Best Dressed DSP and Stitched So Sweetly Die with a sentiment from the Timeless Tulips stamp set.  The colours for this card are Mint Macaron, Blushing Bride, Sahara Sand, Lovely Lipstick and Whisper White.

And here’s the middle when it opens up….

I was blown away by all the design features of Nicole’s card tutorial. She included ribbon placement, full cutting instructions for the clever planter box and great embellishment like the Brick & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder for the background.

The planter boxes are a card in a box style (which are not my favourite to put together) but the instructions make it so easy!

The flowers for my card are fussy cut (with lots of love) from the Best Dressed DSP and layered on the front and middle layers of the planter boxes.

This card was so much fun to make and a win with my Mum!

After a busy but fabulous day, I’m going to spend the last few hours of Mother’s Day sitting quietly with a cup of tea made in my new kettle!

Social Stamping | Family

The theme for today’s Social Stamping is ‘family’. Family is my number one priority (followed closely by stamping!) and the most important thing in my life.  I also believe that you choose amazing people (or they choose you!) and they become your chosen family.

With the rapid changes, intense global shift and uncertainty that has been the last 2 months, it’s been easy to become overwhelmed, and I am very grateful for the support and steadiness of my tribe of both family and chosen family over this time.  There’s nothing like a pandemic with social distancing, home schooling and job changes to force an evaluation of what and who are important.

My stamping friends joining in today have great inspiration for projects you can make and send to loved ones.  They’d love for you to use their creations to inspire creativity in your own craft room, but please give credit to the original designer.

My project was made for a special lady who is having a birthday in isolation after a very tough couple of months.  A friend reached out and asked her network to shower her Mum with happy mail, so while this project wasn’t made for someone in my family, there’s some very special family love happening here.  One of the cliche sayings of the COVID situations is that ‘we’re all in this together’ – and we really are!

I’m not sure what this style of card is called – in my head I’m calling it a Card on Card Fun Fold.  The base of this card is just one layer, and then the folded card sits on top.

The birthday girl’s favourite colours are pink and orange and she loves flowers – so I let this guide the choices of DSP (Peaceful Poppies) and cardstock for this project.  The card base is Lovely Lipstick – such a bright & fun pink to play with!  The flower is Pumpkin Pie with Rich Razzleberry leaves, cut using the Poppy Moments Dies and layered on a Stitched So Sweetly Die cut.  The sentiment (Peaceful Moments stamp set) is stamped in Lovely Lipstick.

I wanted my happy mail to contain some extra love, so I made a note card set to go with it.  For this, I adapted the Pop Out Purse card made by Lou Kitzelman.  You can see Lou’s blog post with more information by clicking here.

The ‘bones’ of the card remained the same, but instead of adding a purse to the middle, I added a center panel on to the pop out element.  This style of fancy fold has so many possibilities.

I also added pockets to the side two panels – one for cute little 3″x 3″ Envelopes and one for 3″ cards that I made featuring poppies to coordinate with my overall theme.

Here’s a close up of the note card set including envelopes stamped with the poppy field stamp from the Painted Poppies stamp set.  I picked colours that matched the DSP – Pumpkin Pie, Rich Razzleberry, Lovely Lipstick & Flirty Flamingo.

With the pop out centre panel, I was able to attach a pen to complete the set.

And then it all folds in and ties with a Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon for easy storage until needed.

I’ve always loved the matchy-matchy of a project set – a card with coordinating gift is such a delight!

Social Stamping | rainbows from kelly

Hello!  This is week 3 of Social Stamping.  I started this blog host when COVID-19 made social distancing a term in everyone’s regular vocabulary and our opportunities for face-to-face contact with family, friends and colleagues became limited.  Wanting to continue to share and inspire after so many of use had to cancel classes and events, I brought together some amazing friends from my Stampin’ Up! network.   You’ll find the full list of bloggers for this week’s hop by clicking here.

Today’s theme is rainbows.  One of the lovely positives to come out of COVID-19 is the way communities – both local and through technology – have connected.  In the face of the chaos that is this virus, I am choosing to seek as much of the positives as possible.  Finding joy in the storm is definitely a silver lining!

I’ve had several friends share the Rainbow Trail with me on Facebook (click here to see it too).  The Rainbow Trail encourages people to add a rainbow of colour to the world in publicly visible artwork projets.  The most popular has been chalk drawings on footpaths & driveways, but I’ve also seen painted fences, covered lamp posts, canvas & poster paintings and baked goods.

So, with the help of the Miss Papercrafts, our project this week was to contribute to the Rainbow Trail and make a butterfly rainbow.

This is the front of our house.  We live on a bush block in the suburb of Dalyellup, part of the greater Bunbury region, about 2 hours south of Perth in Western Australia.

The window is actually my craft room, so when I sit at my desk now and look out, I can see a beautiful array of butterflies.

To create some texture on the rainbow, I used two different colours for each layer of the rainbow (14 colours in all).

• Violet – Gorgeous Grape & Highland Heather
• Indigo – Pacific Point & Blueberry Bushel
• Blue – Coastal Cabana & Bermuda Bay
• Green – Granny Apple Green & Call Me Clover
• Yellow – Daffodil Delight & Mango Melody
• Orange – Pumpkin Pie & Calypso Coral
• Red – Real Red & Lovely Lipstick

We also used 2 different butterfly products – the joined butterfly from Butterfly Beauty Dies and the large & small butterflies from the Butterfly Duet Punch.  In total, the rainbow has over 600 butterflies!!!  The Little Miss Papercrafts helped with everything showing great teamwork for this art project.  Little Master Papercraft even got in on the action, adding some texture of his own to our pile of butterflies when he kept walking over them while we were cutting & poking out all the middle bits!!!

We took some time to work out what saying we wanted to add to our butterfly mural.  We are of course all in this together, as we make conscious choices to “flatten the curve”, protect each other, hero our essential workers and pull together to keep each other safe – both physically & mentally.  But in the end, we decided to choose a quote that reflects the enormity of this situation – “the greater the storm, the brighter the rainbow”.

Although this virus has caused great adversity, I know on the other side of it (and perhaps even from within our days of acute corona-ness), we’ll see so many shining lights that arise from the global lockdown we’re currently in.  Already, there are reports of brighter skies & clearer water.  We’re seeing acts of kindness on a regular basis as we look after the most vulnerable members of society.   And, we are adapting to the ‘new normal’ like never before, showing tremendous creativity & resilience.

We are choosing to embrace the positives and hope you do too!

Pop Out Purse Card | Dressed to Impress

I’m constantly in awe of all the clever people out there and am proud to call many of them my friends.  When I saw this tutorial by Lou Kitzelman for the Best Dressed bag inside card, I knew I wanted to make one!  Now that the birthday girl has her card and present (delivery was slightly delayed pandemic but delivered today thanks to the kindness of a lovely friend), I can share my version of Lou’s design with you.

This is the front of the card – stamped using the Beautiful Friendship stamp set.  This matches the floral images in the Best Dressed DSP so nicely.

The colours for this card are Lovely Lipstick base and Blushing Bride for the matted layers.  The stamping is Highland Heather, Blushing Bride, Crushed Curry, Mint Macaron and Old Olive.

Undo the ribbon, open it up and see the pretty paper!

The Best Dressed DSP is one of my all time favourites. I actually didn’t order it at first because I don’t love all the beauty themed patterns.  But the reverse side with the florals is just breathtaking!

Unfold the card one more time to reveal the bag in the middle!

How awesome is that???  Such a clever use for the bag from the All Dressed Up Dies.  The bag is embossed with the Tufted 3D Embossing Folder.

I added pink perfume from the Dressed to Impress stamp set to the sentiment panel and the ‘happy birthday’ stamp from the Birthday Bonanza stamp set.

The bag on the middle panel is perfect for an extra birthday gift (like the chocolates I put in this one), a note or a gift card.

And then it all folds up again so compact.  Although thicker than a normal card, it still fits in a normal size envelope (snugly but it fits!).

Paper Adventures Team Hop | Last Minute

I am normally very good at meeting deadlines – in fact I find them incredible motivating to actually get things done.  But, as a testament to how crazy my week has been, this is my second blog post in a row that has gotten away from me!

As they say though, better late than never, and there’s no way I could miss the final blog hop of 2019 with my team.

For pure irony or absolute genius, the theme is ‘last minute’ – sharing with you projects you can make this weekend in the mad dash of any last minute Christmas gifts you need.  Make sure to hop around until you get back to me to see all the wonderful inspiration the team has shared tonight.

I always make calendar gifts at this time of the year.  It’s a lovely present to share with friends that will make them think of you all year long.  This year the calendars were extra special as they were gifts for 4 of my besties with a personal twist added in.

The design for this style of easel came via Karen Henderson, who was inspired by Ronda Wade.  I can’t find Ronda’s original post so I can’t link it here, but if someone knows, please let me know!  Click here to see Karen’s project.

The DSP for these is an oh-so-pretty set of designs coming up in the 2020 Jan-June catalogue called Best Dressed DSP.  You can get it as part of my paper share (see tomorrow’s post for pre-sale information) as well as 6 other design packs and bonus Sale-A-Bration DSP.

To make your own easel calendars, you need a normal card base (half an A4 sheet = 8-1/4″ x 5-7/8″, scored at 4-1/8″).

On the card “front”, cut from the fold line down to the bottom at 1-7/8″ from each edge.  This leaves a middle panel that’s approx 3″ wide.  Score this at the half way point on just just panel (2-1/16″).

Cut a piece that will cover the visible gap of the card base (at least 3-1/4″ wide x 3-7/8″).  I’ve embossed this the upcoming Coastal Weave embossing folder, but you could stamp, use DSP or leave plain.  Adhere this in place then adhere the side panels to the card base.

Add DSP to the edge panels (1-3/16″ x 3-7/8″) and the bottom half of the flap (2-3/4″ x 1-13/16″).

Finish by adding a calendar to the card base (I used dimensionals so the easel flap would sit nicely under the raised platform) and add a sentiment.  I’ve used ‘another sensational year of you’ which I thought was perfect for my personal twist.  It comes from the soon to be released Sale-A-Bration (read: free with purchase) set called Sending You Thoughts.

I also made matching envelopes using the left over DSP from the 6×6″ sheet I had.  I wanted to make these extra special for my fabulous friends.  And the personal twist?  Each calendar has handwritten ideas for self care throughout the year.  In lieu of gifts this year, one of my friends suggested we share recommendations – a restaurant, book, activity, holiday location…. any place, idea or thought that would be meaningful for the other friend.  It was such a great idea!!!  I wanted to remind my friends how fabulous they are and give them a little nudge to take care of themselves over the year.

I’d also like to remind you, my wonderful blog followers, to take care of yourselves.  Treat you to some craft time, a binge on a favourite TV series, time to read a good book, an extra serving of your favourite dessert or a to buy that crafty item you’ve had on your wishlist for a long time!
